Textile Lino Prints (2021)

My recent work uses lino print in combination with embroidery and appliqué detailing to explore magical, folkloric themes.

This piece takes inspiration from the symbolism of swans in folklore including the idea of shapeshifting ‘swan-maidens’ (women who transform into swans) in traditional tales. The border details reference Medieval illuminated manuscripts, exploring how such ornamentations can be translated into textiles with the incorporation of free-machine embroidery, hand embroidery, beading and appliqué.

This piece forms the start of a wider project exploring storytelling through print and textile surfaces.
